Course 1: BESA Pipework & Brazing Industrial (J04) or Commercial (J05)

These are designed for operatives who wish to carry out pipework and brazing on systems in either a domestic, commercial or industrial environment. This qualification will be valid for 5 years.

This is designed for operatives who wish to carry out the removal/recharging and leak testing of refrigerants safely within systems to the standard required by the F-Gas Regulation. This mandatory qualification will be valid for 5 years.

Course 3: BESA Safe Handling of Refrigerants, Category II (J12)

This is designed for operatives who wish to carry out the removal/recharging and leak testing of refrigerants safely within systems to the standard required by the F-Gas Regulation. J12 is restricted to systems with less than 3 kg of refrigerant charge (6 kg if hermetically sealed) only. This mandatory qualification will be valid for 5 years.

Course 4: BESA Recovery of Refrigerants, Category III (J13)

This is designed for operatives who wish to carry out the recovery of refrigerant from appliances and systems containing less than 3 kg (6 kg if hermetically sealed) of fluorinated greenhouse gas charge. This mandatory qualification will be valid for 5 years.

Course 5: BESA leak checking without system break in, Category IV (J14)

This is designed for operatives who wish to carry out leak checking of systems without breaking into the system. This mandatory qualification will be valid for 5 years.

Course 6: BESA F-Gas Reassessment Certification Category 1 (J11)

This is designed for operatives to renew their F-Gas Category 1 (J11) qualification. It is valid for 5 years.

Course 7: BESA Flammable Refrigerants (Class A2L, A2 & A3)

This is designed for operative who already hold a current F Gas qualification and wish to carry out the removal/ re-charging and leak testing of hydrocarbon refrigerants safely within systems. This qualification is valid for 5 years as recommended by ACRIB to ensure technicians remain up to date with changing standards and regulations.

Course 1: BESA Pipework & Brazing Industrial (J04) or Commercial (J05)

Introduction

This is a two day training course consisting of theory and practical assessment and brazing a test piece up to 1⅜ inches diameter copper pipe. Course notes are provided and there is a written exam at the end of the course.

Personal protective equipment is required for those attending the course.

Course 2: BESA Safe Handling of Refrigerants, Category I (J11)

Introduction

This is a three day training course which consists of theory and practical assessment to include leak checks, recovery, installing, service and maintaining all RAC systems that hold in excess of 3 kg of refrigerant. The course also involves brazing a test piece, which is then placed in a system. If you have little or no experience of brazing it is advisable to complete a brazing course (J04) first. Course notes are provided and there is a multi-choice exam at the end of the course.

Personal protective equipment is required for those attending the course.

  • Building a leak tight piping system (brazing)
  • Leak testing systems
  • Evacuation/dehydration
  • Checking cylinder weights/capacity
  • Installation of major system components

  • Basic thermodynamics

Course 6: BESA F-Gas Reassessment Certification Category 1 (J11)

Introduction

This is a 1 day course designed to allow delegates to renew their existing BESA certification. It is also suitable for City & Guilds 2079 candidates to update the knowledge on this new regulation and would count as CPD.

For BESA delegates this course can be taken up to 6 months before the date of expiry. The new certificate will be dated 5 years from the date of the original certificate.

Course 7: BESA Flammable Refrigerants (Class A2L, A2 & A3)

Introduction

This is a one day theory training course. Course notes are provided and there is a multi-choice exam (open book) at the end of the course.

Candidates must hold a current F Gas qualification before attending this course.

The course is arranged in the following sections:

  • Health and safety
  • Understand the different classes of flammability as recognised by legislation, safety standards and manufacturers’ instructions
  • Understand the legislative and organisational procedures for installation, servicing, maintaining and de-commissioning
  • Understand the difference between different refrigerant classes in a variety of systems
  • Understand the procedure for planning and preparing for work on systems
  • Be able to plan and prepare for work on systems
  • Understand the specific requirements for installing and testing systems
  • Understand service and maintenance procedures
  • Be able to service and maintain systems
  • Understand the decommissioning procedures for systems
